What Reader is

Reader is a reading and accessibility tool: a web browser with reader-mode extraction, translation, and text-to-speech, for content you already have access to on the open web. Reader does not host or distribute any third-party content — it reads and translates pages you choose to open, on the fly.

Free tier and ads

The free tier includes browsing, read-aloud with your device's built-in voices, on-device translation, and manual chapter navigation, supported by ads shown through Google AdMob. Trial and Reader+ users see no ads.

Subscriptions and billing

Reader+ is a subscription, billed monthly ($5.99) or annually ($39.99) through Google Play Billing. Each device is eligible for one, one-time free trial of Reader+ with a capped amount of cloud AI translation — no card is required to start it. Once the trial's translation cap is used up, you drop back to the free tier unless you subscribe. Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until cancelled; you can manage or cancel anytime in Google Play → Subscriptions. We never receive or store your payment-card details — only the purchase token/entitlement state needed to unlock features.

AI-generated content

Translations produced by Reader — whether by the on-device engine, the cloud AI engine, or the Google-web engine — are machine-generated and can contain errors. Every translated page includes a "Report translation" option; see Support for how reports are reviewed.

Acceptable use

You're responsible for having the right to access and read any content you open in Reader. Don't use Reader to circumvent access controls, paywalls, or licensing terms on content you don't have the right to access, and don't use it in a way that infringes anyone else's rights.

Termination

You can stop using Reader and uninstall it at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for use that violates these terms.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the app changes. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
